FAQs & Useful Information about Your Break at the Kristberg

Welcome to the ‘Genießerberg’! To ensure that planning your holiday and your stay at our 3-star hotel in the Montafon is a completely stress-free experience, we’ve summarised the most frequently asked questions and answers from our guests for you here. If you can’t find the answer to your question here, our hospitality team will be happy to assist you personally at any time.

Before your arrival

When can I check in? When do I have to check out?

You can move into your ‘oases of tranquillity’ (rooms) and the popular Kristberghüsli by 3.00 pm at the latest on the day of arrival. On the day of departure, we ask that you vacate your accommodation (oasis of tranquillity) by 11.00 am at the latest. This gives our hospitality team plenty of time to lovingly prepare everything for the next guests. If you arrive earlier or would like to extend your stay a little on the day of departure, simply let us know. We’ll be happy to look after your luggage so that you can enjoy the unique natural surroundings and tranquillity of the Kristberg in the Silbertal – the Montafon’s ‘mountain for connoisseurs’ – for a little longer.

What’s the weather like?

You can find the latest weather information under Weather Data & Forecast, and here are the live images.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are very welcome here on request in designated rooms and in the restaurant. Four-legged friends are also welcome on the Montafon Kristbergbahn cable car. Please note that dogs must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle by law on the cable car and throughout the entire hiking and skiing area. Full details of the dog surcharge and the rules for dogs can be found here.

Accessibility & Arrival

Is the road to the Kristberg accessible in summer? Yes, from May to October, guests receive an authorisation permit to use the toll-based cooperative road leading from the Silbertal valley up to the Kristberg.

Is the Kristberg area accessible by car in winter? No, the area is car-free in winter. Arrival and departure are via the Montafoner Kristbergbahn cable car – this journey is included in Your stay.

How does the luggage transport work upon my arrival? Your holiday begins completely relaxed at the valley station of the Montafoner Kristbergbahn cable car. You simply load Your luggage into the designated transport trolleys. We will ensure that Your luggage is safely transported to the mountain station and directly to Your room. In winter, this service is fully included in Your inbound and outbound travel during the standard operating hours of the cable car.

Do I need a vignette (sticker) to get here? Yes, a vignette is compulsory if you’re travelling via the Austrian Rhine Valley and Walgau motorway (A14) to the Bludenz/Montafon exit. Alternatively, you can travel toll-free via the Lech Valley or the Arlberg Pass, although you should check the current winter road closures during the winter months.

What payment options are available? You can have all your drinks, massages, etc. charged to your room (Ruheoase). You can settle the bill in CASH, by EC card, Mastercard or VISA.

Is there a charging point for electric cars? Yes, we have two VKW VLOTTE e-charging stations on site (tariff information) which can be used from May to October. During the car-free period from December to April, four VKW VLOTTE e-charging stations are available at the valley station of the Montafon Kristbergbahn, and two further VKW VLOTTE e-charging stations are available at the Spar Siblertal supermarket.

During your stay

When are breakfast and dinner served?

We serve our Montafon mountain breakfast daily from 7.30 am to 10.00 am. Are you planning a long hike, a mountain tour or a special outing and would like to have breakfast earlier? We’d be delighted! Simply let our hospitality team know the evening before so that we can lovingly prepare everything for you.

Can day visitors have breakfast too?

Of course. We’d be delighted to take your booking.

We serve our multi-course evening gourmet menu between 5.30 pm and 7.00 pm. This allows you to round off your day in a relaxed manner and enjoy regional delicacies in a cosy atmosphere.

Should you ever return later than this, we’d appreciate a quick heads-up. Together, we’ll be happy to find a suitable solution.

Is there a quiet hour at the Panoramagasthof Kristberg?

Yes. To ensure that all our Kristberg friends (temporary residents) can enjoy the special tranquillity of Kristberg to the full, our quiet hour begins at 11.30 pm. We ask that, from this time onwards, you keep noise levels to a minimum and show consideration for others. This ensures that all guests (temporary residents) can enjoy a restful night’s sleep and start the next day of their holiday feeling refreshed. Thank you very much for your understanding and your valuable contribution to creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere for everyone – it’s what makes Kristberg so special.

Is there a sauna at the Panoramagasthof Kristberg?

Yes, this small but lovely sauna oasis is open daily from 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm and features a Finnish sauna, an aromatic steam bath and an infrared cabin.

We’d be happy to advise you personally and provide you with tailored tour recommendations – tailored to your fitness level, your interests and the current weather conditions.

The Montafon Kristbergbahn provides a convenient link between the Silbertal and the Kristberg, taking you right into the heart of the Montafon’s impressive mountain landscape in just a few minutes. The mountain station is only about 200 metres from the Panoramagasthof Kristberg and is easily accessible on foot.

Where can I find the current timetable for the Montafon Kristbergbahn?

The current timetable for the Montafon Kristbergbahn varies depending on whether it is the summer or winter season.

You can find the current timetable on our website at any time. This allows you to plan your arrival and departure, as well as your day trips, with complete peace of mind.

How much does a journey on the Montafon Kristbergbahn cost?

You’ll find the current fares for uphill and downhill journeys, as well as various ticket options, clearly listed on our ‘Montafon Kristbergbahn cable car fares’ page for summer or winter.

Our tip: Depending on the length of your stay or your planned leisure activities, a multi-day ticket (summer (Leisure-WildPass) or winter) is often well worth it.

Is the Montafon Brandnertal Leisure-WildPass worth it?

Our customer service team will be happy to advise you personally and help you find the ticket option that’s right for you – and often the best value too. That way, you can relax and enjoy your holiday on the Kristberg and throughout the Montafon region.

IMPORTANT!!! During the snow season, the rule is: book early to save! So make use of the online shop straight away and secure the best price. Thanks to dynamic pricing, the prices shown today are always the ‘cheapest’. The price quoted today can only go up in future.

The BergePLUS programme includes guided hikes, bike tours, family activities and other experiences in the Montafon – exclusively for guests staying at partner establishments.

Do I need to register for BergePLUS?

As many of the mountain experiences on offer are in high demand, early registration is essential. Our hospitality team will be delighted to provide you with information about the current weekly programme and how to register.

Is there free Wi-Fi at the Panoramagasthof Kristberg?

Yes, free high-speed Wi-Fi with a bandwidth of up to 1000 Mbit/s is available throughout the Panoramagasthof Kristberg. This makes our hotel ideal for remote working or a productive ‘workation’ in the mountains.

Can I book a massage whilst on holiday at Kristberg?

Yes, of course. Treat yourself to a special moment of relaxation and wellbeing during your break at Kristberg in Silbertal. Our experienced therapeutic masseuse offers a range of soothing and professional massages – from classic therapeutic massages and relaxing treatments to personalised sessions.

To ensure we can schedule your preferred appointment as effectively as possible, we recommend booking well in advance – ideally before your arrival or during your stay.

You can find all the information about the massages and treatments on offer, as well as our contact details, on our Therapeutic Massages & Wellbeing page.

From what age do children incur a charge?

Children under 4 years of age stay with us in their parents’ room free of charge. For older children and teenagers, we offer tiered discounts. On the Montafon Kristbergbahn, children travel free of charge with the Bambini Free Pass up to a certain age limit (6 years); there are also attractive family rates (only the first child is charged; all further children up to the age of 18 travel free) for shared experiences.

Why is the Kristberg so peaceful?

Thanks to its special mountain location, with its unique panoramic views of the Rätikon and Verwall mountains, and the car-free winter landscape, you’ll enjoy an exceptional sense of tranquillity here. Especially in the evenings and at night, once the day-trippers have headed back down to the valley – whether by car, on foot or by bike – all you can hear are the sounds of nature (the murmur of the Litz, the wind, the distant bellowing of the stags in the rutting season, birdsong, and so on).

Sustainability

Is the sustainable use of resources reflected in the room rate?

Absolutely. By staying with us, you’re supporting active climate protection. Your room is powered entirely by clean green electricity and energy from our own solar panel system. You decide for yourself whether you’d like your towels changed daily or not. We also ensure proper waste separation in the rooms so that valuable raw materials can be recycled. We have been awarded the Austrian Eco-Label.

How sustainable is the Panoramagasthof Kristberg in Silbertal?

You can find out more about our day-to-day efforts (e.g. 100% green electricity since 2020, the use of several electric vehicles, being awarded the Austrian Eco-Label, etc.) to help keep nature and the environment intact on the Environmentally Conscious Holidays in the Montafon page.

Why does the Panoramagasthof Kristberg hold the Austrian Eco-Label?

Because this guarantees that the words (descriptions) are put into practice every day through genuine, tangible actions.

Sometimes life doesn’t go to plan. Should you ever need to cancel your holiday at Kristberg, the General Terms and Conditions for the Hotel Industry (AGBH) will apply.

An overview of the cancellation policy:

  • You can cancel your booking free of charge up to 3 months before arrival.

Winter activities, ski resort & lifts

Can you go skiing at Kristberg, and what lifts are there?

Yes, the Kristberg is a beautiful, compact family ski resort in the Montafon. You can use the Montafon Kristbergbahn, the Kristberg and Sattel T-bar lifts, as well as the ‘Silbis Winterwelt’ children’s area with a conveyor belt. The resort is ideal for families, leisure skiers, those returning to the sport and beginners.

Where can you go tobogganing on the Kristberg, and is there a hire service?

Right on the Kristberg, there are various short, groomed toboggan runs, which are a real highlight, especially for families. As a guest at our hotel, you can hire toboggans with a handy child’s backrest, as well as the appropriate winter sports equipment (snowshoes, cross-country skiing sets), from us free of charge at any time.

How do I get to the historic St. Anna Tunnel?

The historic exhibition tunnel (St. Anna Tunnel) is about a 2½-hour walk from the top station of the Montafon Kristbergbahn and our hotel, situated just below Fritzensee. Another historical landmark is the historic St. Agatha Chapel, situated right next to the hotel. Here you can learn all about Vorarlberg’s oldest mining history. Join us on a fascinating guided tour – either digital or in person – led by a miner.

Facilities, comfort & cuisine at the hotel

Is there a lift at the Panoramagasthof Kristberg?

Our restaurant, the cosy dining rooms and the large panoramic terrace are all completely step-free and accessible. The hotel rooms are located in the traditional parts of the building and are accessed via stairs. Simply let us know when you book if you’d prefer a ground-floor room (Ruheoase).

Does the restaurant also offer vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free dishes?

As a certified ‘Genusswirt’, our kitchen is flexible in catering to your preferences. We serve a varied selection of vegetarian dishes made with regional ingredients every day. Please let us know before your arrival if you have any food intolerances (such as coeliac disease or lactose intolerance) or follow a vegan diet, so that our catering team can prepare suitable dishes for you. Important! There is an additional charge for a strictly vegan diet.

Whether for a few days or a longer ‘workation’ – at Kristberg in Silbertal, the ‘connoisseur’s mountain’ in the Montafon, you’ll find the ideal place to recharge your batteries whilst working productively.

What clothes should I bring?

What clothes should I bring for my holiday on the Kristberg?

On the Kristberg in the Silbertal, you’ll be enjoying nature at an altitude of around 1,441 metres above sea level. To ensure you can relax and enjoy your break whatever the weather, we recommend clothing suitable for mountain conditions.

For summer, we recommend:

  • Comfortable walking or trekking boots
  • Weatherproof jacket (wind and rain protection)
  • Several layers of clothing, following the ‘layering’ principle
  • Sun protection: sun cream, sunglasses and a hat
  • A water bottle for your walks

For winter, we recommend:

  • Warm winter clothing
  • Waterproof winter or hiking boots with good tread
  • A hat, scarf and gloves
  • Sun protection – UV radiation in the mountains is particularly intense, even in winter

Our tip: The weather in the mountains can change quickly. With several layers of clothing, you’ll be just as well prepared for sunny spells as you are for cooler temperatures or a brief rain shower.

If you have any questions about the current weather conditions or a planned hike, our hospitality team will be happy to advise you personally at any time.
